Starting at the nearest possible date, we are looking for a PhD/Junior Researcher or PostDoc/Senior Researcher (m/f/d) - Mathematical Research Data Initiative to join our team at our Berlin site.
 
The Research and Projects Mathematics department develops the next generation of open information infrastructures for mathematics and other Open-Science-oriented research disciplines. Our work helps make research information available in a reliable, machine-readable, traceable, and digitally sovereign way. We research scalable methods in NLP and information retrieval to extract structured information from publications, research data, and research software and to aggregate it, for example, in Scientific Knowledge Graphs. In addition, we develop new digital research and publication formats such as nanopublications and Jupyter Notebooks. To make these methods available to all researchers and usable in practice, we develop decentralized approaches for operating scientific information infrastructure. This strengthens research security, resilience, and digital sovereignty.

Your responsibilities:

In the DFG-funded consortium, Mathematical Research Data Initiative (MaRDI), Germanys' leading mathematics research institutions united to build a one-stop portal that provides access to research data relevant to mathematics research. This includes datasets like arXiv, Wikipedia, zbMATH Open, the Digital Library of Mathematical Formulae, MathOverflow, and the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences.
 
Particular tasks within the MaRDI project will be:
  • Design and implement new approaches to Mathematical Information Retrieval based on current trends in computer science research including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, and big data processing
  • Contribute to implementing the MaRDI portal, the one-stop portal for mathematical research data. The MaRDI portal is based on a customized version of the Wikimedia technology stack
  • Disseminate your results to the benefits of other disciplines in the National Research Data infrastructure and related initiatives

Your qualifications:

  • Studies in the field of Computer Science or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in professional software development desirable
  • At best, you could already make contributions to Open-Source-Software
  • Awareness of code quality and good knowledge of coding best practices
  • Experience with PHP, Media Wiki framework, Linked Open Data (i.e., SPARQL) and desirable
  • Experience in graph databases is a plus
  • Very good ability to work in a team

The position is a full-time position with the option to work part-time, fixed-term position within the project, running until 31 December 2028. Compensation is based on pay grade 13 TVöD (VKA) depending on professional and personal qualifications.
